In one of the seven hills…

Standing on charismatic hills, Lisbon rises above the Tagus River. Well known by being one of the few capitals in South Europe that is located by the sea, Lisbon is the city of the seven hills.

However, two hills may be distinguished by their location, on one side, Saint Jorge’s Castle while on the other, the traditional Lapa Quarter, chosen by the Nobility and Gentry as their residential area par excellence.

Lapa's name had its origin, according to documents found, in a rock called Lapa da Moura, who was next to Pampulha, outside the current boundaries of the district. This designation has been extended to North and East and orally was losing the accessory "Moura".

The biggest monument is Basilica da Estrela or the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is indeed in the beautiful basilica that lies one of the best views of Lisbon.

The Lapa has also one of the most beautiful gardens in Lisbon, the Garden Guerra Junqueiro, known as Jardim da Estrela.

Enjoying Portugal and Lisbon, it is essential to eat well, so we leave you our suggestions:

Bica do Sapato

Bica do Sapato

The hippest restaurant in Lisbon for over a decade is still the place to see and be seen. It's known for being co-owned by actor John Malkovich, but has remained popular mostly for its excellent gourmet cuisine and attractive minimalist space. It's found in a renovated riverfront warehouse in front of Santa Apolonia train station and serves mostly contemporary Portuguese dishes, while upstairs is the place for some of the best sushi in the city.

A Travessa

Belgian and Portuguese cuisine is served in this beautifully restored 17th century convent whose lovely cloistered courtyard makes it one of the most romantic restaurants in the city. In addition to the high quality of the food, it also has a good selection of wines and its own freshly baked bread.
