Downtown & City Center

Gambrinus

Gambrinus

This Lisbon institution open since 1936 is found right in the center of the city, on a street lined with touristy restaurants fighting for the attention of those passing by. But this one is one of Lisbon's top restaurants, and a must for seafood lovers. Everything arrives on your plate cooked to perfection, making the high prices seem quite reasonable.

Bica do Sapato

The hippest restaurant in Lisbon for over a decade is still the place to see and be seen. It's known for being co-owned by actor John Malkovich, but has remained popular mostly for its excellent gourmet cuisine and attractive minimalist space. It's found in a renovated riverfront warehouse in front of Santa Apolonia train station and serves mostly contemporary Portuguese dishes, while upstairs is the place for some of the best sushi in the city.

A Travessa

A Travessa

Belgian and Portuguese cuisine is served in this beautifully restored 17th century convent whose lovely cloistered courtyard makes it one of the most romantic restaurants in the city. In addition to the high quality of the food, it also has a good selection of wines and its own freshly baked bread.

O Clube do Fado

This club is one of the most sophisticated places to experience a night of Fado. It has a spacious interior with a warm, classic décor around ancient stone columns and a Moorish well, where the live Fado performances take place starting at 9:30PM. The singers are professionals (including some young Fadistas) and the menu lists Portuguese specialties.

O Faia

O Faia

More than half a century of an existence always side by side with great names of the Fado song, along with a dedicated respect for the rich and varied Portuguese gastronomy make from O Faia a place impossible not to talk about in what Lisbon tradition is concerned. The respect for this tradition is the guarantee for it’s continuity. Here the night flourishes to the sound of the typical Portuguese Guitar that soothes the pain and nostalgia of the words of great poets that are singed here every night by the voices of Lenita Gentil, Anita Guerreiro, António Rocha and Débora Rodrigues sided by the Portuguese Guitar of Fernando Silva. The splendid restaurant room, filled with cozy corners, abreast with a careful offer of gastronomy and wines delight the most hard-to-please palates
